The Cut Films European Union (EU)
Smokefree Exchange took place over
a week in London during April with 24
young people from across the UK,Sweden
and Slovenia.
My week with Cut Films
by Julia Napieralska, aged 15
Over EU week I got to make a lot of new friends and learn
about the damage caused by cigarettes. My main aim was to
learn about filmmaking and how cameras work. During the week I
worked in groups, getting to know everyone and sharing ideas which
were used for making placards and our final videos. At the start
of the week we interviewed each other and were taught about
how cameras work. We played a lot of different games, some to
do with filmmaking and others were to get to know each other.
During the middle of the week the Slovenian and Swedish youth
groups - “No Excuse†and “Start Ungdom†- took over and talked
to us about the effects of smoking, what cigarettes are actualy
made of and how/who makes them. They talked about what they
do in their countries to prevent others from taking up smoking
and we al presented our findings at the Museum of London. Did
you know big tobacco companies use child labour to make cigarettes
and that a lot of children die at young ages from making
cigarettes?!?!?
We got to interview MPs to ask them about their views on child
labour and protested at the BAT AGM demo. I learnt many facts
about smoking that are never spoken about and learnt, in depth,
badwhy smoking is for you.
