Meet Our Young Volunteers

        Aiming for the Stars!

Our retail stores are very much on the ‘front line’. They are the public face of the charity, and we rely on
volunteers to help our full-time managers to run them.

It can be tough, but rewarding too. Some younger volunteers join while still at school or college.
They are just starting out on their career paths, and many have big dreams. Our shop in Liscard can offer
        a couple of shining examples.

“I really want to be a paramedic, and need to gain some build rockets. I saw the Apollo spacecraft and the huge
work experience before I leave school. I wanted to do Saturn 5 rocket.
something useful, so I chose the Roy Castle shop
because of my grandad, who passed away from lung “To do aerospace engineering, I’ll need to go to
cancer. university. When you apply to university, you get credit

“We were close. I used to go round to see him after
school, for my tea. He was diagnosed in the November “I chose the Roy Castle shop because it’s close to
and he died in the following February. where I live. It was the nicest looking shop too – it
seemed more appealing than all the others. It’s nicely
“The personal connection with Roy Castle was a strong laid out.”
factor for me so I was really pleased to work at the
shop. I love working here, and it gives you great Luke and Elisha agree that volunteering has other

Luke obviously has his feet firmly planted on the ground, her career. She’s already found a paid job at an estate
whereas his friend and fellow-volunteer, Elisha Haskayne, agent, to help fund her studies as she follows her dream.
has stars in her eyes. “Yes, I want to work for the
European Space Agency, in fact, I want to design We wish both of them every success. One
